Signing ceremony: Responding and recovering from drought and saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta

9:16:24, 23/03/2020 This morning in March 17 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) officially signed an agreement to support saline drought for affected provinces in the Mekong Delta.

In the situation of extreme saltwater drought in the Mekong Delta, responding to the call of Disaster Risk Reduction Partnership, MARD, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) -a large organization, always at the forefront of disaster prevention support activities, has shown its good role, from actively coordinating with Vietnam Disaster Management Authority to set up quick evaluation teams to salinity drought, providing information to other members of the Partnership to support.

Today, not only participating as a leading source of information for Partner members, UNDP also officially offered to the people of the Mekong Delta through MARD a support package of US $ 185,000 from the global emergency fund to support drought and saline intrusion situation in the Mekong Delta. UNDP activities include:

- Providing 300 water tanks for affected households in Ben Tre and supporting livelihoods for 176 households in Ca Mau
- Activities to assess the impact of drought on livelihoods, access to fresh water, land subsidence
- Supporting policy dialogue in prevention of salinity and natural disasters
- Application of mobile technology to update damage caused by natural disasters, including salinity drought.

The ceremony was a great success and acknowledged by the Disaster Risk Reduction Partner, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to UNDP's important contributions to disaster prevention in Vietnam.
