Second meeting of the ISDR Asia Partnership (IAP) in 2012, 7-9 August 2012, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

8:44:0, 16/08/2012 The 2nd ISDR Asia Partnership (IAP) meeting for the year 2012 is organised in collaboration with BNPB, Government of Indonesia. The main focus of this IAP meeting, apart from updates and experiences, sharing from IAP members, is to discuss the preparation of the 5th Asia Ministerial Conference and update/follow up on HFA review for the biennium, Post HFA and national platform review processes in the region.
 The 2nd ISDR Asia Partnership (IAP) meeting for the year 2012 is organised in collaboration with BNPB, Government of Indonesia. The main focus of this IAP meeting, apart from updates and experiences, sharing from IAP members, is to discuss the preparation of the 5th Asia Ministerial Conference and update/follow up on HFA review for the biennium, Post HFA and national platform review processes in the region. 

Objectives

1.   Final update, discussion and feedback on preparations before the 5th Asia Ministerial Conference for DRR, which will be held from 22-25 October 2012 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

2.   Updates by countries and regional inter-governmental organisations on HFA implementation, including on the ongoing HFA progress review and the post-2015 process

Participants: Participants including representatives of national governments, sub-regional inter governmental orgnisations, International Financial Institutions, bilateral donors, UN and International organisations, civil society orgnisations and media from IAP members: Bhutan,  Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Timor Leste, Thailand, Srilanka, Korea, Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar, Lao PDR and Vietnam.

Issues of presentations and discussions:

For AMC-DRR preparations

-   Update on Incheon – REMAP implementation, linkages to 5th AMC-DRR,

-   Update on 5th AMC-DRR preparations

-   Technical sessions for 3 main themes of AMC-DRR include (i) Integrating local level Disaster Risk reduction (DRR) and Climate change adaptation (CCA) into national development planning, (ii) Local risk assessment and risk financing and (iii) Strengthening local risk governance and partnership.

-    The Stakeholders annexes to the Yogyakarta Declaration: (i) Mayors and local governments, (ii)  parliamentarians, (ii) civil society, (iii) Academic and Research community, (iv) Children, (v) Private sector, (vi) Group on disability issues and (vii) Group on gender and women issues.

For HFA Review and monitoring: Towards a Global Alliance for safer schools and hospitals; Sharing experience of and preparations for HFA review for Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Vietnam and experience of sub-regional HFA review and other countries.

For Post – HFA Consultations

-   Update on Post – HFA Consultations and experience of Post-HFA National Consultations in the Pacific by UNISDR.

-   Updates on Outcomes of the Wold Ministerial Conference on DRR in Tohoku, Japan: (i) Mainstreaming disaster reduction and building resilient societies, (ii) The importance of human security (protection and empowerment of individuals), (iii) Maximizing disaster reduction capability through hard and soft measures (iv) Forging partnership among various stakeholders transcending sectoral differences (v) Addressing emerging issues such as climate change and urbanisation (vi) Eyeing on year 2015 and beyond

National Platform review: Experiences of implementation of National platform for Sri Lanka and Cambodia also are shared at the meeting.
