The participants of the workshop: senior officials and experts from APEC member economies, representatives of United Nations Development program, the Pacific Disaster Center Asian Disaster Reduction Center and APEC climate Center etc.
In the opening speech, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam Mr.Dao Xuan Hoc said: Vietnam is the country which suffered the effects of climate change, often suffered from storm with high intensity and severity etc. Therefore, the workshop was a good opportunity for managers, scientists, experts of Vietnam to exchange, learn from the experiences of international organizations and the regional economies; at the same time, furthering cooperation among APEC members in this field in the next years, aim to ensure human security when storms and floods occurs.
The workshop is one of the important activities to implement the action plan of APEC working group to deal with emergency situation and priority focus of APEC in 2011 is to prevent and cope with natural disasters.
The results and recommendations discussed at this workshop will be presented to the Conference of APEC Senior Officials in September 2011 in San Fransisco and Conference Ministry of Foreign Affairs – 23th APEC Economic will be held in November in Hawaii, USA./.
