Yen Bai: Thac Ba Hydropower opens an additional outlet to increase flood discharge

To ensure the safety of the dam lake, Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company carried out flood discharge due to the rapid increase in water flow from upstream to Thac Ba hydropower reservoir plus heavy rain, causing the lake water level to rise.

At 7:30 a.m. on October 2, Thac Ba Hydroelectricity opened to increase the flood discharge flow through the spillway with two outlets, the water flow was about 900 m3 / second.

The reason is that the water flow from upstream to Thac Ba hydropower reservoir increased rapidly. In addition, in the reservoir area of Thac Ba Hydroelectricity, in recent days, there has been very heavy rain, causing the lake water level to reach 58.13 m.

To ensure the safety of the dam lake, Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company carried out flood discharge.

To ensure the safety of lives and properties for people in the downstream area, before discharging floods, Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company sent an urgent dispatch to the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue in Yen districts. Binh (Yen Bai province), Doan Hung (Phu Tho province), Yen Son (Tuyen Quang province) with the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of 10 communes located along the Chay River on the flood discharge time.
At the same time, the Company issued warning loudspeakers at 7 fixed stations located along Chay river, for loudspeakers to go along the two sides of the river to warn people about flood water flow.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen, General Director of Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company, said that the implementation of Telegram No. 13 / CD-TW of the Central Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and control at 15:00 on October 1, the unit opened an overflow outlet to ensure safety for the reservoir dam.

However, at 7:00 am on October 2, the lake water level reached the height of 58.13 m, the water flow back to the lake was about 890m3 / second. The company continues to receive orders to increase the flood discharge of the spillway through the two outlets, the water flow reaches about 900m3 / sec.

Along with that, Thac Ba Hydropower Joint Stock Company has assigned leaders and officers to directly inspect upstream and downstream; strengthen inspection of equipment system, ensure safety during flood discharge operation; enhance the inspection of the dyke and dam system to promptly detect if any problems occur./.
