Unusual hail in Ho Chi Minh City due to prolonged dry season

11:7:44, 29/04/2020 In the evening of April 25, hail appeared in the northern area of Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas. The size of hail grain is about 0.5cm, the rain lasts for a few minutes. Although hail has not caused damage, but it also makes people worried. According to Le Thi Xuan Lan - Former Deputy Head of Forecasting Department of Southern Meteorology and Hydrology Station, hail in Ho Chi Minh City did not happen for the first time. In some years of prolonged dry season, this phenomenon happened. Hail occurred in the plain is quite unusual, the size of hail grain ever recorded is about 0.5-1cm.

“In March, there was hot weather but not as hot as April. The reason is that after the equinox (March 21), the sun moved from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere, Ho Chi Minh City in general and the south. The set in particular is close to the equator so the weather will be hotter. As the weather gets hotter, the steam rises more and is pushed up and forms convection clouds. The higher you get, the colder the water vapor becomes. Many such particles stick together and fall to form hail, ”said Lan. According to Ms. Lan, currently the amount of moisture is still increasing, so it is likely that hail in some places in the transition period this time. In addition, the weather also appears some dangerous weather patterns such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, tornadoes.
