Tsunami alert after the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Mexico

9:34:51, 02/07/2020 The US issued a tsunami warning for Mexico's Pacific coast and Central and South American nations after a strong earthquake struck Mexico's Oaxaca state.

The US government on June 23 issued a tsunami warning for the Pacific coast of Mexico and the Central and South American nations after the strong earthquake struck Mexico's Oaxaca state.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center of America said that from 16 hours 16 minutes GMT, 23 hours 16 minutes Hanoi time, dangerous waves as high as 3m can occur in any location within 1,000 km of the epicenter of the earthquake.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Mexico said that no damage has been reported, but the Mexican government is waiting for reports of the situation from the state of Oaxaca.

Earlier on the same day, the Mexican Seismological Agency announced that an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude occurred at 10:34 (local time) that rocked the capital of Mexico City and neighboring states. Seismic alert system has been activated.

Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey (USGS) initially announced the quake of magnitude 7.7 but later dropped to 7.4. The epicenter of the earthquake lies at a depth of 26 km./.
