Storm Tra Mi causes walls to collapse and roofs to be blown off in Quang Tri

9:8:29, 01/11/2024 Heavy rain and big waves caused by storm Tra Mi (storm number 6) have caused some initial damage in Quang Tri province.

Due to the impact of heavy rain and strong winds, a section of the fence at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School (Ward 4, Ward 1, Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province) collapsed.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on October 27, when it was raining heavily, the fence of the school, about 80m long, collapsed and was completely damaged. At the time of the incident, fortunately there were no people passing by.

Also in the morning of the same day, due to the influence of storm Tra Mi, the waves in Vinh Linh, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong districts... rose high with strong winds. The unfinished sea dike in Gio Linh district was hit by the waves, causing landslides; in some places, the foot of the dike was eroded about 1.5km long and about 10m deep. The big waves also caused landslides in the sand dikes along the coast in many places.

In Gio Hai commune (Gio Linh district), 4 shops operating at the Gio Hai communal beach completely collapsed, 9 shops had their roofs blown off.

Many trees were broken and damaged power lines, causing local power outages.

Heavy rain also caused some high-voltage power poles in Trieu Lang commune (Trieu Phong district) to collapse and an electrical incident occurred in Vinh Linh district. According to the Quang Tri Province Electricity Company, as of 1:30 p.m. on October 27, 4,344 customers had lost power and the unit is currently checking and fixing the problem.

Currently, many culverts and spillways in the two mountainous districts of Huong Hoa and Dakrong in Quang Tri province are flooded, causing isolation. Dong Ha city in Quang Tri province also experienced localized flooding in some residential areas.
