Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held the workshop of Drought and Salinization prevention in Mekong Delta

9:32:58, 31/05/2016 In the morning of 17th February, in Can Tho City, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with Can Tho City People's Committee held a workshop of drought and salinization prevention for provinces and cities in Mekong Delta .

Attending the workshop there were the comrades Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Politburo member - Deputy Prime Minister; Mr. Cao Duc Phat, member of the Central Party - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; representatives from Central Ministries and Sectors, People’s committee, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the provinces and cities in Mekong Delta.

 After listening to the presentations of representatives from ministries, sectors and localities, experts on status and measures against drought, salinity intrusion of the Mekong Delta provinces, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc showed that the low level of water leading to drought, salinity status in Mekong delta is particularly serious natural diaster, which influenced increasingly to agricultural, forestry, fisheries production and water supply of the region. That required the ministries, sectors and localities have to adequate awareness of current serious situation to proactively recommend solutions to minimize losses, guarantee  production and activities for people. Additionally, it is important to determine steps, routes and long-term vision to handle problems such as increasing investment capital; using budget effectively and mobilizing participation of all political systems, especially the participation of the whole people.
