Ho Chi Minh city: Ecosystem Restoration

10:40:28, 30/06/2016 Synchronization of biodiversity protecting solutions is the solution of scientists in order to protect, restore ecosystems including nearly 1,515 species of plants and 600 species of animals.. of Ho Chi Minh city.

* Biodiversity reduction

A study of Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering shows that situation of extreme rainfall and over sand mining in Saigon- Dong Nai river system at districts named 2, 7, 9, Nha Be and Can Gio has increased status of riverside erosion, leads natural vegetation along bank of rivers to be narrowed or disappeared. Addionally, artificial embankments and urban areas are not suitable for existence of indigenous wild species. Besides, changes in temperature, rainfall and sea level rise are also impacting remarkably to biodiversity in this city.

* Synchronization and determination

 Given that regession of biodiversity in Ho Chi Minh City partly triggered by human impacts on the native forests and the wetlands, Prof. Dr. Luong Van Thanh, temporary director of Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering emphasized that the establishment of protection areas is a very important step for the conservation of species, biomes and ecosystems. The city has to build a system of protection areas, which contributes to enhance biodiversity, basing on the development of green urban space along with biodiversity. In parallel, to complete the study of a genetic resource management system.
