16:26:14, 13/03/2023 The Xinhua News Agency quoted Brazilian authorities as saying that heavy rains in recent days in the southeastern coastal region of the country have caused severe floods and landslides, killing at least 36 people, causing severe damage. More than 230 people lost their homes, more than 350 people had to be evacuated. The number of missing and injured people has not been announced.

The town of San Sebastiao, in the state of Sao Paulo, was one of the worst-hit localities, with up to 600mm of rain in 24 hours, twice the normal amount of rain in a month.
The governor of Sao Paulo state has declared a state of disaster, lasting 180 days, in 6 cities. The state government spends $1.5 million on rescue operations.
