Floods and landslides in Brazil kill 57 people, thousands have to evacuate

10:20:56, 07/06/2022 At least 57 people have died, dozens more are missing and thousands have been displaced by floods and landslides in many areas of eastern Brazil.

Brazilian army mobilized to search for missing victims in Recife

According to the Federal Civil Defense Agency, 56 people were killed by floods and landslides in the northeastern state of Pernambuco and one more in Alagoas state. Another 56 people were reported missing. In these two states, 6,000 people had to be evacuated to government-designated relief points. Another 7,000 people had to avoid staying at relatives' homes.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said he will go to the Recife area - the capital of Pernambuco state today (May 30), to direct the relief work. The army has also been mobilized by the Brazilian government to participate in relief work and search for missing people.
