Earthquake of magnitude 5.3 in Mexico, no major damage or casualties reported

9:50:18, 20/04/2023 A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook parts of Mexico on the evening of April 3 (local time).

This is information released by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The seismic alert prompted some residents in Mexico's capital to evacuate buildings as a precaution against the quake.

According to the USGS, the epicenter of the quake was near the Pacific coastal resort of Puerto Escondido, in the southern state of Oaxaca.
Shortly after the quake, Oaxaca Governor Salomon Jara wrote on his Twitter account that no damage had been recorded in the state.
In nearby Morelos, Puebla and Mexico City, authorities have also ruled out earthquake damage.
