The earthquake had a depth of about 9.6 kilometers, almost 6 miles, and stuck before 5 a.m. local time on Friday about 50 miles west of Nikol’skoye.
Hazardous tsunami waves were possible following the quake, the the tsunami threat has since passed, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
