Unseasonal rains make nearly 10,000 hectares of rice fall

14:9:24, 11/05/2022 In the past few days, due to unusually heavy rain, nearly 10,000 hectares of rice of farmers in Quang Binh have fallen. The rice is in the ripening season, people are looking for ways to save the rice, but due to waterlogging for many days, many people are worried that they will be empty-handed when the harvest season is approaching.

We are present in Le Thuy and Quang Ninh districts of Quang Binh province, which is considered a granary not only of this land but also a place to supply rice to many provinces and cities in the region, but now farmers People are standing still, worried about losing the harvest. The people of Le Thuy, Quang Ninh are often proud of the song "Nhat Dong Nai, second in two districts" referring to their straight-winged rice fields. Now, due to heavy rain lasting two or three consecutive days, the rice fields of many farmers who are about to harvest have collapsed.

The rice fields have been carefully cared for by the people since the time they made the seedling, so far, they have grown well, the rice has bloomed and sucked milk, everyone is happy to prepare for a bountiful harvest, but they did not expect the unseasonal rain to make them dangerous. white-armed muscle.
Mr. Ngo Van Vinh hesitantly stood in front of his broken rice field sadly said that his family makes 7 hectares of rice this season, ten days before the Lunar New Year 2021, the whole family still has not thought of shopping for Tet to save money. focus on the field. The husband and wife ran to buy fertilizer, hire plows, transplant... Newly on the third and fourth days of the Lunar New Year, they went to the fields to weed and collect water to take care of the rice. Happy because this year's rice has few pests and diseases, blooms at the right time, I did not expect the heavy rain to make the rice fall.

Many farmers in Quang Binh are sad before their rice fields have been knocked down by unseasonal rains

Not only Vinh's family, but many farmers in Quang Binh in the past few days are sad when they see that their rice fields, which are about to be harvested, have been "robbed" by heavy rain. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh's family, in Hong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, in recent years only depended on a few acres of fields to have food to ensure their life, but due to heavy rain, all of Mr. Anh's rice fields were damaged. flooded, almost lost everything. Mr. Anh shared: “This year's crop, my family makes more than 1 ha of rice, the unseasonal rain and wind flooded all rice areas. How much effort the family put into the rice field is now considered empty-handed."

It is known that the monsoon rains in the past few days have damaged more than 10,000 hectares of rice of farmers in Quang Binh, causing deep flooding, of which Hong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district alone suffered the heaviest damage with more than 200 hectares. The rice that has blossomed has been flooded with water, causing it to wilt, and its roots to rot. Local authorities and farmers have actively taken care of the rice, but due to the high mortality rate, the rice is not able to recover.

Mr. Pham Minh Huan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province said: "Hong Thuy and Le Thuy are low-lying areas, people all year round only rely on two rice crops, but now due to the rain. Out of season, most of the rice growing area in the locality was flooded. The commune authorities as well as the people tried all ways to drain and drain the water, but the rainfall was too large, so they were helpless to see the damaged fields.

According to Mr. Mai Van Minh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Binh province, the province is currently coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture to find fundamental and long-term solutions such as improving some dike lines, repairing a large number of embankments, etc. The number of waterlogged drains, along with that, will study the rational restructuring of agricultural production in flood-prone areas, especially in the current complicated climate change conditions to support farmers. in more rational farming. Currently, the agricultural sector and localities in Quang Binh province are encouraging farmers to increase fertilization for resilient rice areas to improve end-season productivity, and at the same time have support policies. for farmers
