On the morning of August 19, 2026, in Thai Nguyen, the Center for Disaster Prevention Policy and Techniques—under the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development)—collaborated with the Civil Defense Steering Committee of Than Sa Commune to conduct an “Evacuation Drill for Flooding and Landslide Response.” This initiative was part of the project on “Raising Public Awareness and Community-Based Disaster Risk Management.”
In light of the heightened risk of drought during the 2026–2027 dry season due to El Niño, Đắk Lắk Province has directed its departments, agencies, and 68 communes in the western region to proactively implement drought-mitigation measures. These include adjusting sowing schedules, transitioning to different crops, and storing water for domestic use. This directive was issued during a meeting held on the afternoon of October 18, which took place both in-person and virtually.

El Niño is forecast to intensify rapidly and could reach very strong levels in the coming months. Heavy rainfall, heatwaves, and extreme weather events continue to unfold in a complex manner.
To provide timely support to residents requiring emergency evacuation and relocation from disaster-stricken areas, on August 5, the People's Committee of Lao Cai Province issued Decision No. 2717/QĐ-UBND, stipulating the levels of emergency assistance for local residents.
