General news on disaster situation and damage caused by natural disasters in the week from 12 to 18 September,2016

16:49:58, 24/09/2016 During the week, a tropical low pressure over the East Sea strengthened into a typhoon - Typhoon number 4 landed in the Central region; a super typhoon (Typhoon number 5) in the Northeast East Sea landed in China; heavy rain, flood, flash floods occurred in the provinces of Central part and Northern Central Highlands causing great damage to people and property (35 dead, missing and injured; many properties, crops, infrastructure are destroyed and damaged).

According to the rapid reports of the affected provinces last week (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Gia Lai), until to 5pm on 17 September, due to crculation typhoon number 4 caused 14 people dead (Thanh Hoa province: 05 people; Nghe An: 06 people, Quang Binh: 02 people and Quang Nam: 01 person), 04 people missing (Thanh Hoa: 02 people; Nghe An : 01 person and Quang Nam: 01 person) and 27 injured.

Damage to housing: Rain and floods have done 77 houses collapsed, swept away; 1.229 houses were damaged, unroofed; 1.956 houses flooded.

Agricultural damage: 16.293 hectares of rice and nearly 6.130 hectares of crops, nearly 100 hectares of perennial plants, over 2.600 hectares of annual crops, nearly 2.000 ha lagoon, aquaculture ponds and nearly 2.000 trees for shade fallen, flooded and damaged. Tens of thousands of cattle and poultry died, swept away.

Damage to transport, irrigation and infrastructure: Many national roads, provincial roads and inter-district roads eroded and damaged with approximately 25,000m3 of land, stones. Nearly 600 meters of dykes, 730 meters of embankments and 35km canal  eroded. 82 power poles broken, poured and 02 substations were badly damaged.

For the week, the reservoir still ensure the level of safety; the lake with flood overflow valve is operated with the process; localities and owners reservoirs held on duty 24 / 24h, regular monitoring of changes in water level and status of the works.
