Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria: at least 2,300 people were killed

Rescue and search for survivors in the rubble are still being actively deployed by the Turkish and Syrian authorities.

According to the Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management Agency, at least 1,498 people have died in 10 provinces of the country. Meanwhile, according to data from the Syrian Ministry of Health, the death toll in areas controlled by the Syrian government has increased to more than 430 people. Currently, the number of people injured by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria is 7,600 and 1,280 respectively.
In the northwestern region of Syria, where the government does not take control, the death toll is at least 380 cases.

In Syria, a total of at least 430 people have been killed, mainly in the Aleppo, Hama, Latakia and Tartus regions, according to Syria's state news agency SANA. The number of injured people is reported to be 1,284.
Meanwhile, the group "White Helmets", officially known as the Syrian Civil Defense Forces, also reported at least 380 dead and 1,000 wounded in opposition-controlled areas in the northwest. Syria.
In Turkey, according to the Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management Agency (AFAD), a magnitude 7.8 earthquake has claimed at least 1,014 lives and injured 7,003 people.
* According to the Turkish and Syrian authorities, more than 1,400 people were killed in the devastating earthquake. Thousands of homes have collapsed, and many people are believed to be still trapped in the rubble.
The earthquake, measuring 7.8, was described by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the worst disaster the country has faced since 1999.
In Turkey, the death toll from the earthquake has reached 912, while 5,383 people were injured and more than 2,800 houses were destroyed.
Rescuers are currently racing against time to find and remove more victims from the rubble in the affected areas.
President Erdogan said that it is still not possible to accurately predict the number of casualties as search and rescue efforts are still being carried out with great urgency.
"Everybody is concentrating on the rescue work, despite the cold winter weather and earthquakes that happen at night, making things more difficult," Erdogan said.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Health said that the earthquake had killed more than 326 people and injured 1,042 others.
In the northwestern part of the country (an area controlled by rebels), rescuers said the death toll was up to 221.

According to information from the Office of the President of Syria, the head of the Syrian government, Bashar al-Assad, has convened an emergency cabinet meeting to assess the extent of the earthquake damage and discuss next steps. further to remedy the consequences.
Turkish President Erdoan said that 45 countries have offered to participate in the search and rescue work.
