    Vietnam is making provisions as Typhoon Bebinca is set to make landfall on 17 August. Vietnam's defense ministry has begun the mobilization of more than 500,000 people, including soldiers, police force and civilian volunteers, to be ready to help residents in storm affected areas. According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting – NCHMF, heavy rain is expected in the north Vietnam. The heaviest rain may occur in Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An provinces (400-500 mm)

  • Northwestern localities suffer big loss due to floods

    According to the Central Steering Committee on Flood and Storm Prevention, as of 17h00 on June 25th, floods caused by torrential rain in northwestern localities, including Ha Giang, Lai Chau and Lao Cai, claimed the lives of 14 people and left 11 others missing.

  • Disaster map facilitates mitigation of natural disasters

    It is necessary to understand natural disasters in order to mitigate the damage they cause to people’s lives and properties. For that reason, a map titled "Atlas of Natural Disasters in Vietnam” (for the mainland) has been issued by Prof. Nguyen Trong Yem, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Thanh, and scientists from the Institute of Geology (under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), with support from the coordinating agencies concerned, laying a basis for managing natural disasters at the macro-level in Vietnam.
